The composer and sound researcher Peter Kiefer from the Mainz University of Music explores the effect of sounds and seeks answers to the questions: How do sounds influence plant growth and where can they have a healing effect.
In addition, Peter Kiefer heads the "Sound Art Composition" course, the only one of its kind in Germany. And his sound art works attract attention not only in Germany but also abroad.
Privately, he rarely listens to canned sounds or music - he prefers to rely on his own perception: "I prefer to have open ears and see what happens, and that's often where ideas come from..."

Wie sehr beeinflussen uns Geräusche und Klänge? Hören wir überhaupt alle das Gleiche? Und wenn wir ein Geräusch hören, hören wir es alle gleich? Oder unterschiedlich?" (Arte)

How does Europe sound like?
What do European metropolises sound like? Escalators? Operating rooms? And what influence do sounds have on our lives? That's what sound artist and composer Peter Kiefer is exploring. For his sound installation "Liquid Borders" he recorded the sounds of the sea at the outermost points of Europe.
